Giving

Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death–even death on the cross.       Philippians 2:5-8 (NRSV)

For the Christian, any giving that is done is to be understood as a response to God’s own self-giving (1 John 4:19). It was Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who gave himself for us and died on the cross so that all who believe in him might have eternal life (John 11:25-26; 20:31).
